If you’re running XP you can download the driver here: I have a new Inspiron and am still having this same issue. I downloaded some stupid audio update for vista. Even after that the sound wouldn’t work. Hey out there, can you please help a techno-phobe? Your “safeguards” simply keep the computer from working!

Please try again now or at a later time. I’m inclined to agree with the comment above me that you just need drivers. I too lost audio when I reinstalled Vista Premium. I aurio a dell inspiron with sigmatel audio.
sivmatel I then uninstalled and deleted the ‘SigmaTel HD Audio’ drivers and then downloaded the latest drivers again from Dell. I got this by going to the device manager and telling it to get the driver from Windows Update.

Great find – this worked for my Dell Dimension E That really worked for me. I booted from the CD and audio tested perfectly fine in the diagnostics environment.

I installed it in a Latitude D which is the business version of the Inspiron and has much the same drivers. Install the registry file and then the audio driver.

Then rebooted and, as you reported jflynn33,Vista reinstalled both drivers and the sound and modem work. I used the same driver as the links on this forum for the Sigmatel driver and no luck.
The system automatic downloaded the driver for sigmatel HD Audio. Same problem with audio; same fix disabling modem works. No sound or audio in Inspiron Windows XP. But when I loaded up Windows again, nothing. Thanks for all your helpful resources! Everything else is working fine except for the audio.
